(WGTD)---The Kenosha police officer who was shot during an investigation early Saturday morning has been released from the hospital.
30-year-old Justin Pruett underwent surgery for a wound to his abdomen. Word of his release came in a news release Friday from the state Justice Department.
Meanwhile, the man who allegedly shot him, 29-year-old Jonathan Massey, waived extradition Friday morning in a Lake County, Indiana courtroom, according to a report in the Kenosha News. Massey told a court commissioner that he was homeless. At some point, Massey will be returned to Kenosha.
The paper reports he appeared in a wheelchair.
Authorities said earlier that Massey was shot in the abdomen during an exchange of gunfire with Pruett. But Massey apparently didn't immediately seek treatment.
After his arrest in Gary a few days later, Massey was taken to a hospital, treated and then taken to jail to await his court appearance.
