(WGTD)---In Racine, officials and residents alike are hoping for a smoother snow removal operation with this latest storm than what took place following a significant snowfall in early January.
A Public Works Department staffing shortage led to numerous complaints.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the city said staffing levels have been ramped up for this storm.
Still, they’re asking for patience from residents, and a loose understanding of the city’s snow removal strategy. Main roads are cleared first before plows move into residential neighborhoods. The goal is to achieve bare pavement on those priority roads within 24 hours after the snow ends, and to make streets in all other areas of the city at least passable.
Residents can help in the process by abiding by parking restrictions.
As of noon Wednesday, parking will be banned on all arterial and collector streets. In the residential neighborhoods, alternate-side parking is in effect.
City officials say the police department will actively enforce the rules. That means tickets with hefty fines, and in some cases vehicles might be towed.
One other note…city officials say because snow plow operators double as trash collectors garbage pickup might be delayed.
