With Video: Stop Sticks Deployed by RSD Deputies Bring Chase to a Halt

Nov. 21, 2023 5:15p

(WGTD)---Tire deflation devices thrown into the traffic lanes in front of a car being pursued by law enforcement on I-94 Monday night made possible the arrest of the driver.

The incident began when Milwaukee police allegedly observed a drug deal taking place at a gas station, then tried to stop the alleged dealer.

46-year-old Charles Lewis of Milwaukee led officers on a chase through Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties.

In Racine County, deputies, who safely positioned themselves behind the concrete median, deployed "stop sticks" which deflated the vehicle's tires.

As the car slowed to about 45 mph, officers from Pleasant Prairie used their squads to box in the vehicle, forcing the driver to stop.

Lewis was taken into custody without further incident. A small amount of crack cocaine was recovered, along with ripped-open baggies which suggested that additional drugs had been dropped out the window.
