(WGTD)---Predators who are caught using the internet in search of a sexual hook-up with a minor are often times tripped up by a police officer posing as a child. In this case, the child was real, and the girl’s mother is the one who blew the whistle.
33-year-old Spencer Ybarra of California has been charged in Racine County Court with using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity and exposing a child to harmful materials.
According to the criminal complaint, a 12-year-old Union Grove girl, on a social media app called “Discord”, using the name ‘lovekillz”, described herself as someone in “need of an older guy to take care of me.”
Before long, she started exchanging inappropriate messages and photos with Ybarra. The girl claims she made clear her true age.
The girl’s mother discovered the online exchanges last fall and called the sheriff’s office.
Their investigation and the work of authorities in Chico, California led to Ybarra’s arrest, and he was transported to Racine.
In court Monday, bond for Ybarra was set at $100,000.
