(WGTD)---A nationwide show of support Sunday to save the U.S. Postal Service from privatization included a rally in Kenosha’s Civic Center Park.
About 200 Postal Service employees and their supporters braved a cold wind.
Christopher Schroeder, President of the National Association of Letter Carriers Local 574, told WGTD News in an interview that President Trump is proposing a series of actions. "He has said he would like to merge the Post Office with private corporations which would in essence privatize the post office and it would compromise the universal service that the Post Office currently provides," he said.
Schroeder takes the threat of privatization seriously. "The way they've been acting with federal employees and federal agencies--this is a very credible threat to millions of jobs," he said. In addition to the hundreds of thousands of postal employees, there are millions of people whose jobs rely on the U.S. Postal Service.
Speakers included Rick Gallo, a retired letter carrier who serves as president of the Kenosha County AFL-CIO.
