(WGTD)---A 2006 graduate of Gateway Technical College has become the tri-county area's first female police chief.
40-year-old Katie Hall was sworn in Monday night as chief of the Twin Lakes Police Dept. "I'm very excited," Hall told WGTD News Tuesday. "I'm actually deeply humbled and honored to serve in this new position as police chief for Twin Lakes. I feel it's a privilege to be entrusted in this role," she said.
Hall graduated from Gateway with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and went to work right away for the Lake Geneva Police Dept. She moved over to Twin Lakes in 2010, and rose through the ranks to become interim chief in May of this year when the former chief left.
Hall said her initial career aspirations upon graduation were to become a detective, but circumstances led to her being named the department's captain in 2019 followed by her appointment as interim chief.
"I really have a true passion for law enforcement," she said. "I love helping people. I really care about the department and the community. It sounds generic but it's honestly true."
The department has 14 full-time and 8 part-time officers, and also has a dispatch center that's staffed around the clock.
Hall said her biggest challenge at the moment is staffing.
