House Speaker Says Republicans Must Offer A Tangible Policy Agenda

(WPR)---U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan told Wisconsin delegates to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland Monday morning that U.S. House Republicans have articulated a vision for how to lead the country once they’re given the chance.
But Ryan made no mention of Donald Trump, the person Republicans from around the nation have gathered in Cleveland to formally nominate for president later this week. Trump and Ryan have repeatedly clashed this year, though Ryan formally endorsed Trump last month.
Ryan said many voters see nothing but acrimony and anxiety in national politics and that House Republicans wanted to show them that there’s a better way.
"It’s not enough for us to simply complain," Ryan said. "It is not enough for us to just oppose. We got being an opposition party down to a T. We needed to get ourselves into being a proposition party."
Ryan had harsh words for the IRS, calling it "arrogant" and "paternalistic." He also said Congress needs to reign in the power of the executive branch of government, overseen by the president.
"We need to take on this entire leviathan of the federal government," Ryan said.
Ryan is scheduled to address the full RNC Tuesday night.
