New Name For Racine's Festival Park?

Racine---The Rotary Clubs of Racine are offering the city a $100,000 contribution toward construction of a permanent performance structure at Festival Park to eliminate the need for building temporary structures every time somebody needs a stage at the lakefront facility. The offer, however, has a couple of catches.

In a letter addressed to Mayor Dickert and the City Council, the clubs say the cost of temporary structures makes it impossible for some local groups to hold their events there.

In exchange for accepting the check, the Rotary wants the city to rename the place "Paul P. Harris Rotary Park," after the Racine native who founded Rotary International.

In addition, Racine Rotary would want permission to install exhibits that share the history of the clubs in Racine.

The request will go to the Council's Finance Committee.
