(WGTD)---There’s a new option for getting to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
A new, previously-announced round-trip Amtrak train will launch May 21st.
The train, called the “Borealis”, leaves Sturtevant around noon each day and arrives at its destination around 6:30 in the evening.
In joining Amtrak’s Empire Builder, the Borealis means there’ll be two round trips daily between Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul. The Empire Builder, however, does not stop in Sturtevant. The nearest stops to catch that train are Glenview, Illinois and Milwaukee.
Coach fares each way between Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul—the originating stations—cost $41. Discounts are available for seniors, children, students, veterans, military personnel and others.
Each Borealis train will offer both coach and business class in addition to a café car and free WiFi.
Stations stops for both the Borealis and Empire Builder include Columbus, Portage, Tomah and LaCrosse.
The Borealis is funded by Amtrak and the states of Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota.
In addition, Amtrak service between Milwaukee and Chicago includes multiple daily runs of the Hiawatha.
