Kenosha's Lincoln Park Lagoon to be Dredged

Some adjustments in the city’s Capital Improvement budget to pay for dredging Kenosha's Lincoln Park Lagoon were approved by the Stormwater Utility Committee this week. Public Works Director Shelly Billingsley told the committee that a DNR permit will be needed---and---because of testing done, the project will cost a little more than the original estimate.  Billingsley said the city is also seeking a grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan to design an enhanced natural shoreline around the lagoon.  Alderman Kevin Mathewson said he's excited about the project, and the general turnaround in Lincoln Park.  It's hoped the DNR will issue the needed permit in early August.  Billingsley said it's possible the project won't begin until next spring. It's believe the lagoon hasn't been dredged since the 1970s, although there could have been some partial projects since then.
