Kenosha Firefighters Crash Symphony Concert

Although they weren't on the program, Kenosha firefighters took center stage for a time at the Kenosha Symphony's concert at Reuther High School Saturday evening.

Just as the program was getting underway, flames became visible from one of the overhead stage lights. The concert was interrupted and musicians and audience members were ordered out of the auditorium.

The fire was confined to the light bar. After about a half-hour, the fire department gave the all clear sign. Everyone was allowed back in and the concert resumed.

"That was something we haven't seen in orchestra life in a while," chuckled flautist Sherry Kujala, who was actually back stage when the ruckus broke out.

"We were pleased to be able to pull ourselves back together and finish the program," Kujala said. "Our young soloist, Maya Angali Buchanan, was stunning and really poised and in control and not thrown off by any of this," she added.
