The Kenosha City Council last night approved a resolution urging the Kenosha Unified School Board to rename the new stadium at Bradford High School for Mary D. Bradford. The School Board's recent decision to reject the recommendation of a naming committee and---instead---name the stadium for the late Olen Arrington, Junior resulted in a firestorm of controversy. There's word that one board member---Rebecca Stevens---will ask for reconsideration at the next meeting. Alderman Jan Michalski urged the council to defer action on the resolution until the School Board has a chance to change the outcome of the vote. Alderman Rocco LaMacchia, who sponsored the resolution, argued against postponing a vote on the resolution, saying pressure on the school board needs to continue. But, Alderman Anthony Kennedy urged the council to defeat the resolution, saying the school board has an opportunity to compromise:
The resolution was approved on a 14 to one vote, the only no vote cast by Anthony Kennedy.
