Evers Gets the Endorsement of Kenosha Firefighters' Union

Oct. 25, 2022 10p

(WGTD)---Republicans—with the notable exception of Kenosha County Sheriff Dave Beth—insist that Gov. Evers could’ve done more for Kenosha during the city’s 2020 riots. Democrats say that’s hogwash.

Reiterating what he's said many times before. Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian, speaking Monday at the Kenosha Union Club in response to ads from Republican gubernatorial challenger Tim Michels, said Evers dispatched the National Guard quickly and did everything that local officials asked of him, despite claims to the contrary. "It's not fair and very disappointing that people use this as the reason they should change governors," Antaramian said.

At the Kenosha Union Club, Gov. Evers stood behind Antaramian while he was making his remarks and alongside other Democrats, including members of the Kenosha Professional Firefighters Association which formally endorsed Evers.

Union vice president Joseph Sielski said his crew was fighting fires on 22nd Ave. during the riots and worked alongside police and the National Guard. "I recently saw a political ad from the governor's opponent that said it took days for the governor to dispatch the National Guard," Sielski said. "That is an outright lie."

Firefighters’ law enforcement counterparts in Kenosha have endorsed Republican Tim Michels.

The KPPA hasn’t forgotten a statement issued by Evers just hours after the Jacob Blake shooting. While not explicitly criticizing Kenosha police, Evers said Blake wasn’t the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of police.

The statement was issued before anyone in the public knew that Blake had a knife in his hand when he skirmished with police just before being shot.

Blake, who survived the shooting, maintained that he wasn’t a threat to police.
