Charges Filed in Downtown Kenosha Crash

Updated 2-11 9p

Kenosha---The driver who caused a three-vehicle accident at a busy downtown intersection Sunday night did so after allegedly running a red light and driving drunk.

21 year-old Alejandro Paz-Garcia was charged Monday with reckless driving, endangering safety and causing injury while operating under the influence.

The accident occurred at Sheridan and 54th. Paz-Garcia allegedly failed to stop at a red light and, at a high rate of speed, struck two vehicles that were passing through the intersection. The vehicle then came to rest about a block away against the wall of the county-owned parking ramp.

Initially, Paz-Garcia was believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries but he was released from the hospital later that night and jailed.

Three other people were taken to the hospital, including a passenger in Paz-Garcia's vehicle.

The crash caused Sheridan Rd. to be closed for several hours.
