(WGTD)---A 30-year tradition at Gateway Technical College won’t be sustained this month.
The college is discontinuing an event held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day that commemorated the life and ideals of the civil rights leader. The program was held in the Conference Center on Gateway’s Kenosha campus and was open to the public.
As part of an effort to encourage volunteer service among staff, the school instead is asking employees to donate personal hygiene items for students who are in need. The kits will be assembled this month.
According to an email to staff, the move to discontinue the event aligns with the decision to give employees the day off.
