(WGTD)---In response to the threat of the spreading coronavirus Carthage College is taking the following steps: it will extend its spring break an additional week through March 20th---then---all graduate and undergraduate classes will be conducted online at least through April 9th. If circumstances allow, the school will resume regular classroom instruction on Tuesday, April 14th following the Easter break. The school is also telling students NOT to return to campus until further notice. Students in campus housing are being told to go home immediately---if possible. If not, they must complete an updated extended stay form to obtain permission to stay on campus. Those decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
All Carthage offices will remain open and services will be provided to support students and faculty.
John Swallow, Carthage College president, said “I share your dismay that we have reached this point, and I share your hope that we can return to our traditional format in April. We are committed to seeing students complete their spring semester courses and meet graduation requirements. And we will continue to make careful decisions in the best interest of all Carthaginians.” More details can be found at www.carthage.edu/coronavirus.
Similarly, UW-Milwaukee extended its spring break by a week from Sunday, March 15 through Sunday, March 29. The campus will suspend in-person classes and move to online instruction beginning Monday, March 30 through at least Friday, April 10. That announcement came earlier this week after a member of the university's foundation was tested for coronavirus. The results of the test are expected later this week.
In a message to students, faculty and staff posted on the UW-Parkside website on Wednesday, Chancellor Debbie Ford said the school is monitoring the situation and will continue to hold face-to-face classes and labs as scheduled.
