(WGTD)---It’s official: A primary will be needed in the race for two seats on the Kenosha School Board. Five candidates met Tuesday’s filing deadline. The primary—to be held Feb. 18th—will narrow the field to four candidates. The primary ballot will feature only one incumbent. Rebecca Stevens is running again. The second incumbent whose term expires this spring, Kristine Schmaling, is stepping down. The list of challengers includes Sheb Muhammad, Andreas Mamalakis, Valerie Kretchmer and Carl Bryan.
In races this spring for 10 Racine City Council seats that are up for grabs, two will require primaries. The filing deadline was Tuesday. In the 5th District, incumbent Melissa Kaprelian has drawn challenges from Jens Jorgensen and Raymond Ellison, Jr. In the 9th District, where incumbent Terry McCarthy is stepping down, four names will be on the ballot: Grace Allen, Patrick Schwanke, Colin McKenna and Eric Hillery. Five of the incumbents up for re-election will have no opposition. They are Olivia Davis, Maurice Horton, Renee Kelly, Cinthia Esqueda and Marlo Harmon. In races in which no primary will be required, incumbent Jeff Coe will face Malik Frazier, incumbent Mary Land goes up against Michael Hansen and incumbent Cory Sebastian is being challenged by Nathan Pabon.
