Shalom Center Director Departing For Post at Racine YMCA

Jan. 15, 2025 10:15p

(WGTD)---The director of the Shalom Center in Kenosha is leaving to take a new position.

Tamarra Coleman has been appointed C-E-O of the Racine Family YMCA.

Coleman, a former Kenosha school board member, joined the staff of Kenosha’s homeless shelter in 2015, and became executive director in 2019.

Under her leadership, the non-profit went through two major expansions, the most-recent being the opening of the Hope Hub Community Center just last year. The new wing’s main purpose is to connect homeless people with community resources. It also serves as a cooling and warming center.

A Shalom Center news release said the agency’s board of directors accepted Coleman’s resignation “sadly.”

The board appointed Esther Roberts, the Shalom Center’s Housing Case Manager, as Interim Director.

A search has begun for a permanent director.
