The primary election for Racine mayor is less than three weeks away.
Six candidates will be on the ballot September 19th. The top two finishers will go head-to-head on October 17th.
They’re all seeking to replace John Dickert, who left the mayor’s office to become president of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
Four candidate forums have been organized by the Racine Branch of the NAACP, the Racine Public Library and other community organization.
The first will be Saturday September 9th at the YMCA George Bray Neighborhood Center on Center Street from 3 until 5 p.m. The next will be Tuesday September 12th at the Cesar Chavez Community Center on Douglas Avenue from 6 until 8 pm. That will be followed on Saturday September 30th with a forum at the Doctor John Bryant Community Center of 21st Street from 11am until 1pm, and the final forum will be Thursday October 12th at the Doctor Martin Luther King Center on King Drive from 6 until 8 pm.
The candidates are State Representative Cory Mason, former Racine School board members Melvin Hargrove and Wally Rendon; Alderperson Sandy Weidner (wide-ner), electronics repair shop owner Austin Rodgriguez and Racine County Green Party Chair Fabian Maldonado.
