Sept. 26, 2024 1:45p; Updated 9-27 with Perez comment

(WGTD)---A new candidate has emerged for the position of Racine County Executive.

Former Racine Piggly Wiggly store owner and philanthropist Ralph Malicki launched a campaign with a Facebook message confirming his interest.

Maliki joins County Clerk Wendy Christensen, Deputy County Emergency Management Director Lorenzo Santos, former Racine School Board President Melvin Hargrove and Kenosha Alder Cory Sebastian.

Town of Norway Administrator Tom Kramer, who also chairs the Racine County Board, had said previously that he was collecting signatures but has since taken himself out of the race. Kramer told WGTD Thursday that has not yet endorsed a candidate.

Racine Alder Henry Perez, who also had been collecting signatures, has taken himself out of the race as well.

The deadline for filing is Thursday, Oct. 24th.

The primary will be held Thursday, November 21st.

The position opened up with the unexpected death of Jonathan Delagrave.
