(WGTD)---A social service program that puts money directly into the pockets of low and middle-income residents in Kenosha County is looking for more volunteers.
This past tax season, the Kenosha County United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program made out the returns of over 800 residents who qualified for the free help, enabling them to pull in $1.6 million in refunds and credits.
United Way Executive Director Carolynn Friesch said on WGTD’s Morning Show that she’d like to help even more people. "We had about 35 volunteers, but quite frankly we could probably double that and still not get to everybody that we want," she said. "Usually we have all of the appointments booked up by mid-March, but if we could add 10-15 more volunteers that could help out even more."
Volunteers need not have an accounting or math background. All of the volunteers are trained online by the I-R-S.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the United Way and may want to start by going to the group’s website.
