(WGTD)---UW-Parkside announced Tuesday cost-savings staff furloughs, falling in line with other UW campuses that are trying to cope with revenue losses due to the pandemic.
The intermittent, consecutive-day and workload reduction furloughs for 300 Parkside staff will save about $500,000.
But the actual losses are several times that amount. Housing reimbursements, canceled campus events and a 5% reduction in state funding add up to a more than $2.8 million loss, according to a campus spokesman.
Additional savings will be generated by salary reductions at the top. Chancellor Debbie Ford is taking a 10% reduction and members of her leadership team will take a 5% hit.
All this comes at a time when summer enrollment is actually up over last year by about 100 students. All classes this summer at Parkside will be taught online.
