(WGTD)---News releases stemming from the appearances in Sturtevant last week of President Biden and Microsoft CEO Brad Smith provide the first solid look at projected employment numbers for the Microsoft data center that's under construction in Mt. Pleasant.
Over time, the equivalent of 2,000 full-time jobs are expected to be created.
The number was confirmed by a Microsoft spokesman last week.
The jobs cover the waterfront of what's needed to run the facility, and include phases that have yet to be unveiled.
The first phase--currently under construction--is expected to be completed at the end of 2026. At that time, 500 workers are expected to be employed, the spokesman said.
The 2,000 number does not include temporary construction jobs.
