Kind words of praise, books and a neck tie figured prominently--and appropriately---in a reception Tuesday marking Morning Show host Greg Berg's 30th anniversary at WGTD.
The event--at Carthage's Hedberg Library--was arranged by the school's Director of Library and Instructional Services Carol Sabbar. Greg is a full-time music professor at Carthage on top of his hosting duties at WGTD.
Tuesday's event was also used to formally unveil a collection of books whose authors have appeared on the program. The 150 or so volumes in the ever-increasing collection are now available for check-out by the public. While some of the books were purchased by Carthage, others were used--and marked-up--by Greg as he prepared for the author interviews.
The reception included introductions by Morning Edition local host Dave McGrath, and comments from Carthage President Gregory Woodward, who began his remarks by feigning jealousy in saying that Greg is his "least favorite" person because he does such a variety of things so well. In addition to conducting his insightful Morning Show interviews, Greg is a published composer, vocal performer and choir conductor. He also serves as musical director for the Racine Theatre Guild.
At the end of the remarks, Greg was presented with a personalized tie that included the Carthage flame and WGTD's logo, adding to a large collection of ties for which he's known.
Besides authors of national acclaim, the Morning Show features a variety of local guests from all walks of life. The program airs M-F from 8:10 to 9. All programs are available right here at wgtd.org.
