(WGTD)---Grewenow Elementary has become the first Kenosha Unified school to close entirely and switch to virtual learning as a result of the recent surge of COVID cases.
2.5% of the south side school's staff and students are currently dealing with COVID. While the district's threshold for mandatory closure is 3%, the decision was made to make the switch now because of the high COVID percentage coupled with the number of symptomatic students that were sent home Thursday, according to a letter to parents.
With no one in the building Friday, the school is being disinfected. Teachers are expected to return on Monday and teach virtually.
The letter states that students will need to remain at home--learning virtually--through Friday, Oct. 1st.
School lunches will be available for pickup beginning Monday from 11:25 to 12:25.
The spread of COVID through Grewenow comes even though Kenosha Unified has a mandatory mask requirement in place.
