(WGTD)---A relative of the Kenosha couple who lost their Kenosha home to a fire over the weekend says they're doing well and are thankful for the community's support.

Over $20,000 has been raised in a crowd-sourcing campaign to help the Hamilton family.

According to the relative, who did not want to be named, David Hamilton smelled smoke during the noon hour Sunday and discovered a fire of unknown origin in the basement of the Whitecaps home. He tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher while calling 911.

By the time firefighters arrived, the smoke was too thick and the fire too far along for firefighters to make their way to the basement. Part of the first floor collapsed before firefighters were able to get a handle on the blaze.

Then overnight, the fire rekindled. Damage was so severe that a backhoe was brought in to knock down what remained of the structure.

Hamilton, his wife and a child lived in the home, located about a block east of Nash Elementary
