(WGTD)---Gateway Technical College’s Fab Lab at the SC Johnson iMET Center in Sturtevant is celebrating its 10th year.
Fab Lab coordinator John Zehren likes to compare the place to a public library where residents are able to access all types of resources—and ask for help if they can’t find something. Speaking on a recent edition of WGTD’s Communtiy Matters program, Zehren noted the Fab Lab is indeed open to the public. "When somebody walks through the door here they remember that one thing they had a concept for that they wanted to try to build but they didn't know how," said Zehren, adding that the Fab Lab may not only have the tools to do the job but can offer collaborative brain power.
The cornerstone of the "maker space' is its 3D printing capability, but there are other tools as well.
Accessing the Fab Lab is free, but there are small charges for workshops, any materials that are used and time spent on machines.
In addition to being open to the public, the Lab is a resource used at one time or another by many of Gateway’s academic programs.
In addition to the Community Matters program, additional details are available here.
