(WGTD)---At Bradford High School in Kenosha this past week, students and staff celebrated the completion of a project long time in coming: The over $2.5 million repair and renovation of the school’s field house.
The project was sparked by an urgent need: Groundwater under the floor of the field house had started to seep up and buckle parts of the rubber flooring.
"It had become a safety issue. Student athletes were experiencing injuries," said Tarik Hamdan, the district’s chief financial officer before Thursday's student assembly and pep rally got underway. "It's a beautiful thing to see it done."
Crews replaced the foundation and installed a new drainage system and a wood floor. Also, bleachers, lights and the field house’s sound system were all replaced.
Most of the cost was covered by the district's share of one-time proceeds from the closing of a tax incremental financing district in Pleasant Prairie.
