A County Board Supervisor is Trying to Revive Race Commission

(WGTD)---A Kenosha County Board supervisor is trying to revive the dormant Kenosha County Racial and Ethnic Equity Commission.

Supervisor Jeff Gentz has introduced a resolution that has been referred to committee.

The commission was created two years ago in the aftermath of Jacob Blake and George Floyd. Commissioners were appointed by the county executive and county board chairman.

Since its inception, the commission at times struggled to gain traction then was hit with a series of resignations. Subsequent replacements drew criticism from members of the public.

Last fall, County Executive Samantha Kerkman recommended that the commission be disbanded. No meetings have been held since then.

Gentz is proposing to keep the panel’s mission and structure mostly intact. One noticeable exception is that he would remove the county executive’s appointment authority and place it solely in the hands of the county board chairman.
