Best Western Harborside Reopens

Kenosha---The city's only downtown hotel re-opened for business Wednesday after addressing a laundry list of fire code violations.

The Harborside Inn Best Western was closed about two weeks ago, with fire officials expressing concern about bare wires, improper wiring, missing ceiling tiles, burned out emergency lights, holes in the dry wall and locked and blocked entrances.

The hotel immediately lost its Best Western accreditation.

But as of Wednesday, the hotel was accepting guests and taking reservations as a Best Western.

The place had run into problems with the fire department in the past, but this time, hotel management appeared to have gotten the message and acted accordingly, according to Guy Santelli, the department's Division Chief of Fire Protection.

Santelli, who said two weeks ago that he was embarrassed that such a hotel was in his city, now says he'd recommend the place to out-of-town travelers.

Santelli says he'll be back for a follow-up inspection next month.
