Apparent Murder/Suicide Victims in Kenosha ID'd and Surprise in Kenosha Arson Case

Kenosha police have now officially identified the two victims in Wednesday afternoon’s apparent murder suicide at a house on 22nd Avenue. They are: 23-year-old Brian Baldwin---from Kenosha---and---23-year-old Anthony Kerrill---from Waukegan. Those are the only official details the police have released.

However---as we reported yesterday---Channel 58 TV in Milwaukee spoke to Brian Baldwin’s father who told them the apparent murder/suicide was a domestic violence crime generated by a love triangle. Glenn Baldwin told Channel 58 that his son was the victim of the shooting. Both men apparently had a relationship with a woman---who was Kerrill’s ex-wife.

The Kenosha News reports that court records from Illinois show Kerrill and his wife divorced two months ago. Kerrill also had a pending court case for carrying a concealed firearm while intoxicated---and---driving while intoxicated. The newspaper also reports that Kerrill’s social media account shows him as a former Marine---and---a student at the College of Lake County---with many of the photographs on his account picturing him with weapons---both as a member of the military---and---as a civilian.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday we reported on a 70-year-old Illinois woman---Kathleen Kauppi---who had been charged with arson following a fire at the Pleasant Prairie home of her brother---where she was living temporarily---following fires in the last 2 homes she lived in in Illinois. Today---the Kenosha News is reporting that---that charged has been dismissed---and---instead---attempted murder charges have now been filed---against her 28-year-old nephew---Keith Kauppi---a former Winthrop Harbor firefighter. He has confessed that all 3 fires were started in order to kill his aunt. Police believe he set the fires in an attempt to cover up thefts from his aunt in which he was forging checks to steal money from her bank account.

A Winthrop Harbor detective told the Kenosha News that the nephew “confessed to everything.” The forgery allegations did lead to Keith Kauppi being terminated from his part-time job as a Winthrop Harbor Fire Department firefighter and emergency medical technician. According to police---he worked with the department for about three years and was fired on Feb. 27th.  Keith Kauppi is now being held in the Lake County Jail on $1 million bond.
