Two people have been arrested in connection with a triple shooting in Mt. Pleasant during the Independence Day holiday period. Once again, technology played a big role in solving the case. Appearing in Racine court were 24 year-old Perreyon Townsend of Milwaukee and 25 year-old Jashawn Williams of Kenosha. Three people were shot and wounded in the 2200 blk. of Racine St. during the early-morning hours of July 5th. The most seriously injured was a woman with two gunshot wounds who sustained damage to a lung and her liver and kidney. Authorities believe the shooting was gang-related. Investigators got a break in the case when they examined the cell phone of the victim of a Kenosha shooting which occurred several weeks later. The phone had a photo of Williams taken just hours before the shooting in Racine. His attire matched that of one of the gunmen in a security camera video in the Racine shooting. Ditto for the second defendant, Townsend. Text messages on the phone also incriminated Williams. Authorities are still looking for a third gunman.

A Kenosha carjacking victim held on to the side of his speeding SUV for six blocks before he was thrown off. The man escaped serious injury, and two suspects were eventually arrested. According to the criminal complaint, the victim had made arrangements to meet two potential buyers Saturday afternoon for a test drive. The victim, riding in the back seat of the Escalade, told investigators that he became suspicious when the men kept driving around town for over two hours. Eventually, the men pulled into Advance Auto Parts on Sheridan Rd. near 75th to conduct a battery test. After the test was complete, the defendants jumped back in and locked the doors before the victim could get inside. The man grabbed on to the vehicle on the front passenger side. The driver sped off with the victim hanging on. Six blocks later, the SUV jumped a curb and sideswiped a tree, forcing the victim to lose his grip and fall to the ground. Continuing south on Sheridan, the Escalade crashed into a Dodge Caravan, injuring the driver. The two suspects—both men from New York—fled on foot but were eventually arrested. The owner of the Escalade complained of pain to his elbow.
