Wheatland Sightings: A Coyote Maybe But Not a Cougar

The reported sightings of a cougar or mountain lion in the Wheatland area of western Kenosha County on Tuesday morning are a false alarm. Marty Johnson---a wildlife biologist with the Wisconsin DNR---investigated the area of the sightings with three wardens yesterday and found no evidence of a cougar or mountain lion. Johnson said they only found coyote (pictured here in a stock photo)---deer---turkey---and---raccoon tracks---that’s it.

Two people who live in the area---just north of Highway 50---and---east of the Walworth/Kenosha County line reported seeing what appeared to be a cougar or mountain lion in a nearby wooded area.
