(WGTD)---A national foundation that focuses on promoting manufacturing careers has made new donations to Gateway Technical College.

Gateway President Bryan Albrecht announced Wednesday that the Gene Haas Foundation is contributing $500,000 to Gateway’s Promise 2 Finish Program. The financial aid program helps former students return to college to finish up and earn their degrees.

Also, Gateway Foundation Director Jennifer Charpentier announced that Haas is donating $40,000 to fund 16 scholarships over a two-year period for students enrolled in the school’s C-N-C training program.

In exchange for the generosity, a large, multi-purpose space that’s located in the middle of the SC Johnson iMET Center in Sturtevant is being named “Gene Haas Innovation Alley.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday in the space, which Albrecht described as symbolic of the importance of manufacturing career pathways for southeastern Wisconsin and the nation.
