(WGTD)---The Milwaukee Business Journal is reporting that half of the struggling Regency Mall in Racine could be demolished to make way for a large grocery store and nearly 300 apartments.
The City of Racine would provide heavy financial support through incentives and a Tax Incremental Financing District.
The plan is expected to be reviewed by the city council in the coming months.
Like many malls around the country, Regency Mall--owned by a Georgia-based company--has been beset with a high vacancy rate.
If all goes as planned, construction could begin early next year.
The grocery store operator had not been identified.
The redevelopment plan includes new restaurants and would be accomplished in phases.
