(WGTD)---Barring successful challenges, a total of nine candidates will be on next month’s primary ballot for Kenosha mayor. The top two vote-getters will advance to the April election.
The nominating petition deadline was Tuesday evening.
The nine are Gregory Bennett, Jr., Dave Bogdala, Elizabeth Garcia, Tony Garcia, Kelly MacKay, Andreas Meyer, Mary Morgan, Lydia Spottswood and Koerri Elijah Washington.
Longtime incumbent John Antaramian announced last year that he would not seek re-election.
Kelly MacKay—a late entry to the race—currently serves as an alderman, a position for which he’s seeking re-election and is running unopposed. If elected mayor, MacKay would need to resign from the council.
Two previously announced mayoral candidates did not return nominating petitions. They are Randall Delaney and Steven Van Beckum.
All 17 seats on the Kenosha City Council are up for election this spring.
11 of the 17 incumbents have no opposition. In addition, one newcomer has no opponent. Art DeBaere is the only person on the ballot for the seat currently held by Dave Bogdala who’s running for mayor.
In addition to Bogdala, two other council incumbents aren’t running. They are Dan Prozanski and Dave Mau. Two candidates have filed for Mau’s seat. They are Peni Keeling and Ricky Romano. A pair of candidates will be on the ballot for Prozanski’s seat. They are Joel Trudell and Kenny Harper.
A primary election will be needed in the third district, where incumbent Jan Michalski picked up opposition from Tanya McLean and Courtney Marshall. The primary will be February 20th.
