(WGTD)---Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser wants to rename “KD Park” in honor of Kenosha County’s military veterans, past, present and future.
Kreuser made the recommendation in his budget address to the county board Tuesday night.
The 234-acre KD Park—named for its close proximity to the county trunk highway of the same name—is a former quarry that opened to the public nearly 10 years ago.
Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Kresuer said that the idea to name the park,"Kenosha County Veterans Memorial Park", stems from the realization that no memorial currently exists to honor all Kenosha County veterans. Kreuser said KD Park would be better suited for the purpose than other county parks. "It's more of a passive place in which you can gather your thoughts and maybe have some quiet time," he said.
Kresuer is recommending that a committee be formed to consider some type of memorial structure that would be a good fit.
He’s included $150,000 in next year’s budget to get the process off the ground.
