The last of Racine Unified's three new school dedication ceremonies took place outside of Gifford School on Highway-K, in Franksville. It’s an addition created for elementary students, making it a K-8 campus, with the total size comparable to a high school. Mike Frontier, President of the Board of Education AND the first Principal at what used to be Gifford Elementary School years ago, told several hundred parents, students and neighbors that Gifford has come a long way. School Superintendent Lolli Haws said it was hard to believe three years ago that a project like the Gifford addition would ever become reality. She added that today's classrooms incorporate new concepts for teaching. Principal Mary Cline said the new K-8 campus presents a unique way of educating children. She thanked school district and school leaders for a planning process that she admitted was complicated---AND---for which she was "hands on.” Gifford joins the Knapp and Olympia Brown schools in offering new facilities for some 25-hundred students, as the 2016-17 term gets underway. All three projects reportedly came in on time and under budget.
