KUSD School Board Makes Dress Code Changes

The Kenosha Unified School Board adopted changes to the district's dress code last night, but not before making a few more adjustments. The board held two work sessions on the policy after hearing complaints from dozens of students and parents for months.  However, two areas of the proposed policy came under additional scrutiny---last night---after concerns were expressed by district staff. Kurt Sinclair, the principal of Bradford High School, said he and other principals were concerned about the requirement that high school students be required to wear the IDs on a lanyard that is visible at all times, and, more importantly, about the language in the policy about enforcement of the dress code.

Board member Gary Kunich, who requested the language about IDs, said he would support taking it out of this policy. Board member Dan Wade feels the ID policy should be included in a safety policy that the district needs to develop.

The board adopted the revised dress code, without the ID and enforcement language.  The new policy will take affect at the beginning of the next school year.
