Kenosha Casino Still Possible

(WGTD)---It’s been about a year since the unveiling of plans by the Menominee Indian Tribe and Hard Rock to revive a casino development for Kenosha.

Menominee Tribal Chairwoman Gena Kakkak confirms to WGTD that work is continuing on the project. "We continue to make progress on the project and remain optimistic about its future," she said in an email. "As you know, gaining the necessary, multiple approvals for a project like this is more like a marathon rather than a spring, and we continue on that path."

At the local level, discussions are continuing with city and county officials.

City Administrator John Morrissey tells WGTD that an agreement between at least the city and casino developers is all but finalized.

At the federal level, Kakkak says the developers are still collecting and preparing information that’s to be submitted to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Gov. Evers also needs to sign off on the plan.

The development—to be located along I-94—is to include a casino, hotel, a live entertainment venue and a restaurant. She says the tribe hopes to issue a progress report this fall.
