Likely GOP Nominee Under Fire For Attacking Latino Jurist
Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said on Monday that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump should retract comments he made about a federal judge's Mexican heritage. Johnson's campaign spokesman Brian Reisinger said Monday that Johnson disagrees with Trump "just as he has in the past."
Trump has drawn bipartisan fire after saying that a Latino judge presiding over a trial in California over Trump University can't be fair because of his heritage. Trump wants to build a border wall to keep people from illegally entering the United States from Mexico. The judge was born in Indiana to Mexican-born parents.
Johnson is in a tough re-election battle with Democrat Russ Feingold. Feingold spokesman Michael Tyler said that it's clear Trump's comments don't bother Johnson enough to withdraw his support for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
