Fire Causes Heavy Damage to a Kenosha Home

July 5, 2021 noon

(WGTD)---No one was injured in an early-morning house fire in Kenosha that followed a long night of illegal fireworks displays in the city.

Although the cause of the blaze at 6706 38th Ave. is currently listed as "undetermined," a neighbor who phoned in the alarm at 3:30 a.m. is convinced that fireworks are to blame.

Karen Maki says she was trying to go to sleep when she heard a loud 'boom,' then looked outside and saw her neighbor's porch engulfed in flames. "I was just laying there with my cat trying to go to sleep and that's when I heard it," she said.

The fire spread to the attic of the two-story home, causing about $40,000 in damage, according to the fire department.

Maki said the people who lived in the house had been shooting off fireworks sporadically throughout the evening.
