Experts Differ On Whether Murderer Should Go To Prison or Mental Hospital

Dec. 15, 2022 8:30p; Updated 12-16 noon with new developments

(WGTD)---The prosecution in the sanity phase of the proceeding against the Racine barber who allegedly killed a customer because he thought he was the "anti-Christ"  and because he refused to pay continued to try to throw cold water on the notion that Tamir Williams was legally insane.

In court Friday morning, prosecutors played a video of a Halloween party that occurred at the hair salon where Williams worked. The video showed Williams interacting with a party-goer who was dressed up as Satan. The costume appeared to have no impact on Williams, who appeared to be enjoying himself at the party.

Judge Robert Repischak paused the proceeding to note for the record that the defendant, as he sat at the defense table, appeared to be happily reliving the moment, based on his visible behavior which included some laughter.

Psychologists called earlier by the defense said it appeared to them that Williams was suffering from schizoaffective disorder with a bipolar twist.

A psychologist called by the prosecution agreed that Williams was suffering from a mental illness, but that he wasn't too far gone to be unable to distinguish right from wrong.

A trial to determine whether Williams was indeed legally insane is continuing before Judge  Repischak.
