(WGTD)---A once-popular, upscale restaurant in downtown Racine is set to reopen.
Vero International Cuisine is scheduled to go before the city's license committee Monday night for approval of a liquor license.
Vero has the same owner--obstetrician Veronica Carver--but it will be run by Susan Gordon, who up until a few months ago was the front-house manager at the Racine Country Club.
Gordon tells WGTD that if all goes as planned Vero could be back in business by the end of the month.
The restaurant closed in 2018, ostensibly for renovations, but then remained closed through the pandemic and for an internal "regrouping," according to Gordon.
The main dining and bar area remain on the first floor. An expanded second floor will be available for overflow seating and for private parties. Gordon says the upper floor includes a new dining area with a glass ceiling.
Gordon says Vero is eager to join a small renaissance in downtown dining that includes the soon-to-open Verdant hotel and the riverfront Chartroom.
