(WGTD)---Country Thunder will be operating in the Town of Randall next month with a strict limit on ticket sales.
The Kenosha County Board unanimously approved a 30,000 per night cap on the four-day music festival Tuesday night.
The cap is the result of a surge in attendance on the last day of the event last year in which 50,000 patrons showed up, creating a variety of hassles related to congestion. The sheriff department’s top commander at the festival, Capt. Eric Klinkhammer, says he believes Country Thunder will abide by the requirement. "Their management was out there in that chaos last year and saw what happened," he said. "And they don't want a repeat and neither do we."
Klinkhammer said festival organizers have made other changes to the layout that Klinkhammer described as beneficial.
County Board Supervisor Mark Nordigian, who represents the area, said he’s pleased with the progress that’s been made over the years. "It (Country Thunder) came to Randall when I was on the Randall Town Board and you want to talk about the wild west--it was insane back then," Nordigian said. "What it is now is far more controlled."
Country Thunder this year runs from July 19th to the 24th.
