A Write-In Will Presumably Win a Racine School Board Seat

Feb. 25, 2024 2:30p

(WGTD)---Voters in the Kenosha Unified School District and in one voting district in Racine Unified will be asked to consider write-in candidates in the April spring election.

In Racine Unified District #4, no candidates will appear on the ballot. The incumbent, Julie McKenna, is stepping down after years of service.

District spokesperson Stacy Tapp says currently there are no registered write-in candidates. But she says that in this situation a write-in candidate need not register in order for any votes cast for that person to be counted after the polls close on April 2nd.

In Kenosha Unified, four school board positions are open. While there will be eight candidates on the ballot, one of them, Angela Cassity, has suspended her campaign for personal reasons. Since her announcement, a write-in candidate has registered. She’s Robin Cullen.

Cullen and the candidates listed on the ballot—minus Cassity—are expected to participate in a WGTD-sponsored forum that’s scheduled for March 21st.
