(WGTD)---In the coming days, WGTD will be hosting at least three candidate forums in advance of the Apr. 2nd election.
The first will take place Thursday evening, Mar. 14th and will feature candidates in contested races for Kenosha City Council and Kenosha County Board. There's an unusually large number of county board races.
The 'mini-forums' will begin at 6:30 and will be streamed live on WGTD's Facebook page and then archived. The program will be produced in WGTD's studios without an audience.
The brief appearances by the candidates are designed to allow voters to familiarize themselves with the names on the ballot.
Questions will be posed by WGTD Community Matters host Len Iaquinta and Education Matters host Bob Haggarty.
Then a week later on the evening of Mar. 21st, the two candidates for Kenosha mayor will discuss the issues in a forum that's to be held in HARIBO Hall on the Kenosha campus of Gateway Technical College beginning at 6:30. At 7:30, the candidates for Kenosha School Board will gather to answer questions, explain why they're running and provide biographical information. This, too, will be streamed live on Facebook and archived. An in-person audience is welcome. Questions will be posed by Iaquinta and Education Matters host Karin Sconzert.
Although there are far fewer contested races, candidates for Racine City Council and Racine County Board will face off in an in-studio, Facebook-streamed forum the evening of Mar. 18th beginning at 6:30. Haggarty will moderate.
Sponsors are being sought for both the Kenosha and Racine city council and county board forums. Sponsors will be recognized during the breaks between races with 'slides' that will appear on screen. Companies, non-profits, political parties, campaigns and other entities are eligible to serve as sponsors.
Others forums may be scheduled as the election draws closer.
For more information on sponsorship, contact WGTD General Manager David Cole at coled@gtc.edu.
Candidate questions may be submitted for consideration by emailing them to Dave McGrath at mcgrathd@gtc.edu. The questions will be forwarded to the appropriate host.
