(WGTD)---Tom Clark and his wife Ruth combined their interests in education, the arts and nature to benefit the community in an endowment that’s administered by the Kenosha Community Foundation.

The foundation is hoping to entice others in the community to follow suit.

Clark, Foundation Executive Director Amy Greil and Foundation Board Chair Dave Geersten spoke recently on WGTD’s Morning Show with Greg Berg.

They explained the process of creating a legacy for families that have an interest in allocating some of their resources for the good of the community.

For the Clark’s, what led them to the Foundation in the first place was the need to secure some tax write-offs in retirement.

They established an endowment fund called “Creativity by Kids”.

This past year, $5,000 were distributed to six non-profits. Projects in recent years included the Pringle Nature Center’s Creative Playground, the Kenosha Public Library’s story walk program and the maple-sugaring event at Hawthorn Hollow.

Clark said one of the best parts is leaving the decision-making up to others. "A committee of volunteers from the community reads all of the applications and make the decisions," Clark said. "And we applaud them. It's just been wonderful to see their choices and reactions."
