Six Takeaways From Local Election Results

Takeaways from Tuesday's Election:

The Racine County Clerk's office--or somebody--has six months to figure it out before the county gets clobbered with negative national headlines if the election vote tabulation process in November goes the way it did this week.  An as-of-yet unspecified break down delayed the reporting of Tuesday's vote totals.

Tuesday's results for Kenosha County Board supervisor positions set up a renewed battle for control of the board when it comes time for the body to elect a chairman. The conservative faction currently in control lost influence as a result of Tuesday's balloting.

Kenosha County's vote totals did nothing to demonstrate that the county overall isn't becoming more conservative. Voters who identified themselves as Republicans out-numbered Democrats by five percentage points. Still, Donald Trump and Joe Biden polled even in presidential preference primary voting. That's because many voters who voted in the Republican primary chose Nikki Haley, a candidate who actually dropped out of the race several weeks ago.

Kenosha Mayor-Elect Dave Bogdala won't have to spend time getting to know members of the incoming city council. Bogdala--a longtime alderman who just gave up his seat to run for mayor--knows 'em all, almost. Tuesday's election yielded little change in the makeup of the council.

Approval of a referendum proposal to allow a school district to exceed state-mandated levy limits in order to stay afloat is not a sure thing. A handful of school districts in the WGTD listening area went to referendum this spring with mixed results.

Endorsements matter. Mayor-Elect Bogdala worked hard to sew up endorsements early. His opponent--Lydia Spottswood--cited Bogdala's endorsements as one reason for the failure of her candidacy.
