Racine-based S-C Johnson is pitching in $50,000 to help the homeless in the city.
The company announced Tuesday that it'll donate $25,000 each to the Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization (HALO) and Segue Racine.
The latter opened a 'few-barriers' type of shelter in the former Lincoln Lutheran headquarters building on Domanik Drive near the Root River. The new shelter is a sequel to an overnight shelter that a downtown church once offered, but eventually closed, because it couldn't handle the demand.
HALO operates the city's largest shelter for the homeless, but admission is contingent on agreeing to work with a case manager.
Operators of the new shelter are making sure that guests don't arrive with drugs, alcohol or weapons, but after that, impose fewer requirements than HALO.
Earlier this year, S-C Johnson donated $25,000 to the group that's building "tiny houses' for homeless veterans.
